Mistfall Hunter Modes: Solo, PvP, PvE, Co-op, and Crossplay
Understand Mistfall Hunter solo and squad play, its PvPvE rules, crossplay, online requirements, and why solo is not an offline PvE campaign.
Mistfall Hunter supports solo entry and three-player squads, but its core hunts are online PvPvE extraction matches. Playing alone does not remove hostile players, turn the game into an offline campaign, or create a guaranteed PvE-only run.

How solo play works
Choose to enter without filling a squad and the hunt still follows the normal extraction rules. You fight monsters, gather loot, complete objectives, and search for a way out while other players may be present.
Solo is viable, but you lose the coverage and revive opportunities a coordinated team can provide. A solo player must decide more carefully which fights are worth taking, when to disengage, and how long to remain on the map.
Useful solo priorities include:
- carry a loadout you can afford to lose;
- preserve mobility or an escape skill instead of spending every cooldown to open a fight;
- use sound and sight lines before entering exposed loot areas;
- avoid starting a long PvE fight when another player can hear it;
- extract when the haul already advances your goal.
The collected community reports disagree about how comfortable every map or objective feels alone. Those experiences depend on matchmaking, class, gear, and player skill, so they are not proof of a fixed solo difficulty rule.
How three-player co-op works
A full squad contains three Gyldhunters. Teammates can cover different ranges and roles, share information, focus dangerous targets, and protect someone who needs to heal or disengage.
Cross-platform squads are supported. The official launch FAQ confirms cross-platform matchmaking, and the Xbox store lists cross-platform multiplayer and co-op capabilities.
Crossplay does not merge account progression. Pick the platform on which you intend to keep your main roster and loot.
What PvPvE means in Mistfall Hunter
PvPvE combines two kinds of opposition in one hunt:
- PvE: corrupted creatures, elite enemies, bosses, and environmental objectives;
- PvP: rival Gyldhunters who can contest routes, objectives, loot, and extraction opportunities.
The two layers interact. A difficult monster can expose your position, consume resources, or create an opening for another team. A rival can also interrupt a boss attempt or force you onto a less valuable extraction route.
This means a good PvE build still needs a plan for player contact, while a PvP-focused build cannot ignore monsters and the extraction clock.
Is there a PvE-only mode?
The reviewed live sources do not establish a generally available PvE-only queue. Mistfall Hunter has extensive PvE content, but normal hunts remain PvPvE and other players are part of the risk.
Community discussions and third-party pages speculate about a future pure-PvE mode. Until Bellring Games gives it a release date and rules in an official announcement, treat it as a possible roadmap item rather than a selectable current mode.
If avoiding PvP is non-negotiable, do not buy the game on the assumption that solo equals PvE-only.
Is there a traditional multiplayer campaign?
No separate linear co-op campaign is documented. The story premise, Windrest progression, quests, classes, and seasonal systems surround repeatable extraction hunts.
You can pursue objectives with friends, but the structure remains session-based: prepare, enter, fight and loot, then extract or lose what was at risk.
Does Mistfall Hunter have ranked play?
Path of Glory is the competitive progression ladder. Its score bands, named ranks, point sources, penalties, and rewards are separate from character level. Use the Path of Glory guide for the current Duskborn-to-Zenith structure.
Which mode should a new player choose?
Start solo if you want space to learn controls, looting, and extraction decisions without coordinating with strangers. Use inexpensive gear and make survival the goal.
Move into squads when you understand the basics or have friends available. A team reduces the number of tasks one player must handle at once, but it also creates more communication and positioning responsibilities.
In either case, the beginner guide and settings guide cover preparation, extraction, visibility, ping, and desync.
